Match the blade to the material for the best results — fine-tooth blades (14–24TPI) for metal and plastics, medium-tooth (8–12TPI) for hardwood and plywood, and coarse-tooth (4–6TPI) for fast rough cuts in softwood and MDF. Cutting with the good face of the material facing down reduces tear-out on the visible surface, as jigsaw blades cut on the upstroke.
